“I do not go a day out of my week without stopping for just a moment to say, “Thank you, UM,” for the lasting impact that the University of Mobile has made in my life.”
In every aspect of my day-to-day life is a lasting impression that was made by so many relationships, memories and moments that happened because of my time at UM.
In the classroom I was not just a name on the roster. My professors took time to get to know me and took intentional moments in class to help develop me as a student. Their intentional moments helped to establish a love of learning that still continues. To see my professors so passionate about the career fields they chose was contagious and developed in me a desire to always continue learning.
When I was not in the classroom at UM, I was spending my time with the people who became my family for four years and beyond. On my freshman hall, Faulkner 1st long, I made friendships that have continued far past freshman year. I cemented friendships with people who stood by me on my wedding day and asked me to stand with them on theirs. There is something so special about the way life is lived at the University of Mobile and, for me, it showed most prominently in the people.
The people who were RAs alongside me, my fellow Ram Rush Committee members, my San Francisco Bridge team, my intramural soccer team – so many special people who I got to share daily life with made my time at UM the best four years of my life. If it were not for events like The Bridge I might not have met friends who became the best roommates anyone could ask for, or if the coffee shop was not always full of groups doing homework or watching sports I might not have gotten to talk to the man that years later became my husband.
When I get to talk to these friends now, or relive our glory days (Punishing Ponies intramural champions) I find myself saying, “Thank you, UM, for the opportunities that were available for me to get out of my comfort zone, try new things, meet new people, travel to new places and become a stronger, more confident person because of the experiences.”
The University of Mobile made every day of college an exciting and memorable experience. From dancing in neon jumpsuits at Goodwill Gala as a freshman to walking across the stage and touching the globe at my graduation, my time at UM helped mold me into the best I could be through the intentionality and love of everyone on campus. I will always take time to stop and say, “Thank you, UM, for the best experiences of my life.”
