Why Kinesiology?

My college journey didn’t start out at the University of Mobile. But I am so glad it led me here!

I love helping others any way I can, and I enjoy health and fitness. This is something I took into account when deciding my major. So, I searched and searched…. and searched some more… before settling on a major that I wasn’t even passionate about. I continued taking classes toward a career that I didn’t feel 100% at peace about because it was the best option at my community college.

Eventually I had a conversation with my parents and expressed to them how I felt about my chosen major. With their support, I was able to take a semester off. I took this time to grow spiritually and prayed that God would point me in the right direction. This is when God moved.

I did more research and discovered the field of athletic training. The more I read about it, the more I realized this is where I felt called. It will allow me to help athletes push past obstacles and give me a chance to share the gospel with people of all ages and from all walks of life.

With my direction decided upon, I began to search for colleges that would prepare me. I had a friend at the University of Mobile who encouraged me to attend a Preview Day. Throughout the visit, I fell in love with this school. Next thing you know, I began my journey at UM.

Now, I am starting my third year here at UM majoring in Kinesiology – Pre-Athletic Training in the School of Health and Sports Science. Professors at UM genuinely care and want to help you achieve your goal. That, combined with a Christ-centered approach to learning, has helped me gain the knowledge necessary for my field and also allowed me to grow in my relationship with Christ.
