For as long as I have existed, I have always been the person who loved to write and tell stories. When I was younger, my plan was to major in English and become an author so I could just sit and live in my own fantasy world, all-day, every day! However, God had another purpose for my life and totally changed my direction when He presented me with WORLD Magazine.
I was in seventh grade when I first received a copy of the Christian publication and, immediately, I was hooked. This one magazine showed me that there were other Christians out there who were not just writing for a living, but who were also making a difference by spreading the name of Jesus by writing for the Lord. It wasn’t until I was in eighth grade when I officially decided to give my gift of writing back to the Lord and use my skills to further His reach and expand His kingdom.
Once I began studying journalism, I knew that I had finally discovered my purpose, because I was immediately and entirely filled with so much joy! I couldn’t ever get enough of the subject! I fell in love with learning new styles of writing and interviewing people. For me, journalism is writing with an important purpose, to inform the people of newsworthy events and activities. I feel as though I’m not only fulfilling my need to write, but I’m also fulfilling God’s purpose for my life.
I am only a freshman here at the University of Mobile and, already, I have had the opportunity to intern at the Office for Marketing and Public Relations. Gaining experience in the field I want to go into has been such a huge blessing. I thank God every day for leading me to the University of Mobile and opening so many doors! At each and every turn, God has impressed upon me that this is where I am meant to be, and this is what I am meant to be studying!
