Baylee Gaughf My Why

Kinesiology, Exercise Science (Pre-OT)

I tend to draw near to places, people and activities that involve serving others. Naturally, the University of Mobile pulled me in with its distinct core values. As a student-athlete, I am able to serve others through softball and kinesiology. The UM softball team has a reputation for cultivating a culture revolved around character and serving others. The university also depicts this culture. I chose kinesiology, pre-occupational therapy because it addresses the vital importance of people’s psychological and emotional well-being, as well as their physical needs. I believe firmly that being an athlete at UM has helped me grow within my major. The direct correlation between studies and application on and off the field is evident. Kinesiology and softball showed me the gateway to a profession that would allow me to teach and educate others about the body, as well as how to achieve health and wellness. Being a student-athlete at UM has allowed me to utilize athletics as a means to achieve my ultimate goal: serving and glorifying God. “Use your God-given gifts to serve others.” -1 Peter 4:10.
