Alabama School of the Arts Presents ‘The Secret Garden’ Musical Theatre Production April 22-23

2017-secret-garden-slideMOBILE, Ala. – Alabama School of the Arts at University of Mobile presents “The Secret Garden,” a stage adaptation by Pulitzer Prize-winner Marsha Norman and Lucy Simon based on Frances Hodgson Burnett’s serial novel of the same name.

Performances will take place at Saraland High School’s Performing Arts Center on Saturday, April 22 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, April 23 at 2 p.m. General admission for both performances is $25 per person, while students with valid identification and children’s admission is $10. Tickets are available at or at the door.

This production is directed by Bruce Earnest, associate dean for Alabama School of the Arts, with music direction by Dr. Scott Wright, general director of Mobile Opera.

This remarkable musical is the story of young Mary Lennox, played by Laurlyn Wash, a senior musical theater major. Mary loses her parents to a cholera outbreak in India and is sent to live in Britain with her morose uncle Archibald Craven, played by Collin Clardy, a 2016 graduate of and staff member of the Roger Breland Center for Performing Arts.

Young Mary’s liveliness changes the atmosphere of Craven’s manor and her discovery of a once-beautiful but hidden garden captures audiences with a story of transforming love and redemption.
