Kathy Dunning Named School of Business Dean at University of Mobile

MOBILE, Ala. – The University of Mobile announces the promotion of Kathy Dunning, DBA, to dean of the School of Business.

Dunning joined the University of Mobile faculty in 1994, most recently serving as associate dean in the School of Business, chair of the accounting department and associate professor of accounting. She received the university’s prestigious William A. Megginson Teaching Award in 2007.

Dunning holds a Doctor of Business Administration in accounting from Northcentral University, San Diego, California; Master of Business Administration in accounting from the University of South Alabama; and a Bachelor of Science in biology from the University of Alabama.

She holds additional credentials as a Certified Management Accounting (CMA), Certified in Financial Management (CFM) and Certified in Strategy and Competitive Analysis (CSCA).

Vice President for Academic Affairs Todd Greer, PhD, said Dunning has a passion for mentoring students at the Christ-centered university.

“Having watched firsthand the intentional development that Dr. Dunning has brought to both our accounting students and the business program as a whole, I am thrilled that she will serve as dean of the School of Business at the University of Mobile. Her professional acumen and strong connections to the Mobile business community will continue to ensure that our students are well-prepared and attractive to local employers,” said Vice President for Academic Affairs Todd Greer, PhD.

Dunning said, “”I am very excited to have the opportunity to work with the incredibly talented faculty within the School of Business who mentor students on a daily basis to develop graduates ready for their chosen careers.”

Dunning is a member of the Certified Fraud Examiners, Institute of Management Accountants, American Accounting Association, Alabama Association of Accounting Educators. She serves as faculty athletic representative for the University of Mobile in the Southern States Athletic Conference of the NAIA, and is a member of the SSAC Eligibility Committee.

She serves as chair of the audit committee on the Board of Directors for Commonwealth National Bank, and is chair of the Foundation of the First Baptist Church of Mobile. She is an Alabama Performance Excellence Award examiner, performing on-site audits of companies competing for the Alabama Performance Excellence Award which follows the Baldrige Quality Award criteria.

Dunning also serves as a member of the Advisory Board for the Family Health Clinics of the Mobile County Health Department.
