MOBILE, Ala. – A faculty concert performed on a Steinway grand piano by an internationally recognized Steinway Artist at University of Mobile, which was recently named an All-Steinway School, was a tribute to Becky Fox, retiring associate professor of piano and chair of the piano department.
Fox chaired the “All Steinway, All Together” campaign that raised funds to purchase Steinway pianos and earn the Christian university the prestigious designation of All-Steinway School.
The March 7 concert celebrated Fox’s 38-year career at UM and was performed by her colleague and co-chair of the Steinway campaign, Dr. Kadisha Onalbayeva. Onalbayeva dedicated the concert to Fox in appreciation “for her friendship, and that she always believes and works for what is best for our students, for our faculty and for our university.”
“As a performing artist, I can express my feelings better through music, connecting with the audience through musical sounds. I felt that giving this concert was the best way for me to express my respect and appreciation to Becky and to honor her great career at University of Mobile,” Onalbayeva said.
“For 38 years, you have been the ultimate example of grace to your students and colleagues,” said Dr. Roger Breland, executive director of the Roger Breland Center for Performing Arts at the Alabama School of the Arts at University of Mobile.
“It has been said that the greatest compliment one could be paid is for someone to say, ‘I see Jesus in your life.’ Mrs. Becky Fox, we all see Jesus in your life,” Breland said.
During the year-long campaign, Fox said attaining the designation of All-Steinway School would be the fulfilment of a dream.
“It would make my career worth it, because I think our students are the best, and they deserve the best,” she said then.
Fox was presented with multiple bouquets of flowers by piano students and colleagues. View the video of the presentation here.
