University of Mobile Faculty to Perform Flute and Piano Recital on Nov. 6

MOBILE, Ala. – University of Mobile faculty Dr. Gabriela Gimenes, flutist, and Dr. Kadisha Onalbayeva, a Steinway Artist, will present a program with an international flair on Nov. 6 in Moorer Hall at University of Mobile, 5735 College Pkwy, Mobile, Alabama 36613.

The duo will present “Cultural Influences in the Flute World,” a program of classical, jazz and contemporary works by composters from Brazil, America, Poland and France. Admission is free and the concert begins at 7 p.m. with works by Louis Ganne, Gary Schocker, Francisca Aquino and Ricardo Vasconcellos, and more.

Dr. Kadisha Onalbayeva is director of piano studies and professor of music in the Alabama School of the Arts at University of Mobile. She was born in Kazakhstan and is the first person from her country to be named a Steinway Artist. Onalbayeva began her piano career at the age of five at Zhubanoc Special School for Children in Almaty, Kazakhstan. She continued her education at Kurmangazy National Conservatory of Music. She went on to earn two Master of Musical Arts in both composition and piano performance at University of New Orleans and a Doctor of Musical Arts in piano performance at Louisiana State University.

Gabriela Gimenes is instructor of flute in the Alabama School of the Arts at University of Mobile. She received her doctorate from the University of North Texas, a Master of Music from University of Central Arkansas, and a Bachelor of Music from Sao Paulo State University. Gimenes has played with Sao Paulo Youth Wind Symphony, Conway Symphony Orchestra, Orquestra Academica do Estado de São Paulo, Fiddler on the Roof Production in São Paulo Brazil, and flute substitute for Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, USP Symphony Orquestra, Theatro São Pedro Symphony Orchestra, and Wicked production in São Paulo.
