University of Mobile Honors Retiring Professors Becky Fox and Anne Lowery

MOBILE, Ala. – University of Mobile faculty and staff celebrated the careers of two longtime faculty members during a reception May 9 in Weaver Hall on campus. Family and friends also gathered to congratulate Becky Fox, associate professor of music in the Alabama School of the Arts, and Dr. Anne Lowery, professor of business in the School of Business.

Both celebrated 27 years of service as full-time faculty members at the Christian university. Additionally, Fox served as a part-time music instructor for 11 years prior to joining the full-time faculty.

Fox began her career at the university, then Mobile College, in 1979 teaching part-time in the music department. In 1990 she became a full-time music instructor. She recently co-chaired a successful fundraising campaign that resulted in the university’s recognition as an All-Steinway School.

Fox holds a Bachelor of Music and Master of Music Education in piano performance from William Carey College. She and her husband, Dr. Rod Fox, live in Mobile.

Lowery joined the university in 1990 as assistant professor of business. She served as dean of the School of Business from 1996 until 2008 when she was named associate vice president of academic affairs. In 2015, she chose to return to the classroom full-time in the School of Business.

Lowery holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Alabama, a Master of Arts in economics from University of Wisconsin, and a Doctor of Business Administration from Mississippi State. She and her husband, Henry, live in Northport, Ala.

Kathy is an award-winning public relations professional and former journalist with a strong background in strategic communications, feature writing/story-telling, copywriting and editing. She serves as assistant vice president for university communications. Kathy joined the University of Mobile marketing/public relations staff in 1993 and has earned awards for writing, public relations and advertising, including twice receiving the grand prize for feature writing from the Baptist Communicators Association. She serves on the board of the John M. Will Scholarship Foundation, awarding scholarships to promising student journalists; and is a member of the Public Relations Council of Alabama, Baptist Communicators Association and Society of Professional Journalists. Kathy lives in Daphne with her husband, Chuck, who earned his M.B.A. from University of Mobile. They have two children and two grandchildren.
