MOBILE, Ala. – High school counselors from Mobile, Baldwin and Clarke counties visited the University of Mobile campus Oct. 3 for the second annual High School Counselor Visit Day.

The educators were greeted by UM Ambassadors and welcomed by Dr. Timothy Smith, university president, to the event aimed at building partnerships with counselors in order to connect with prospective students. The event was hosted by the School of Education, with presenters from various departments of the university giving the visitors an overview of the university named “#5 Best Regional College in the South” by U.S. News & World Report.

Each academic dean presented new programs and unique course offerings to update the counselors on the latest developments at University of Mobile. Student representatives from each academic department also provided first-hand accounts of the student experience. Counselors also heard from representatives from student life, residential life, athletics, recruitment, and financial aid.

Dr. Chris McCaghren, vice president for academic affairs and provost, voiced his appreciation to the school counselors for their role in sharing the assets of University of Mobile with their students. The counselors were served lunch and given a tour of campus.

“On behalf of the School of Education, I salute local school counselors. We appreciate all they do to educate and inform students of the opportunities available to them at University of Mobile,” said Karon Bishop, instructor in education.
