MOBILE, Ala. – The Alabama School of the Arts at University of Mobile is hosting the work of painter Nathan Perry in an exhibit called “Uninhabited.” This exhibit will be on display Aug. 20-Sept. 27 in the Martin Hall Gallery.
Perry will give an Artist Talk on Sept. 27 at 11 a.m. with a reception following. Both the exhibit and Artist Talk are free and open to the public.
Martin Hall Gallery is open Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is located in Martin Hall on campus at University of Mobile, 5735 College Pkwy.
Perry paints invented landscapes that are inspired by his childhood in Salt Lake Valley, the basin of a prehistoric lake. His works are the collision of a perceptual painter’s sensibility and a “sci-fi junkie” aesthetic.
“I generate alien landscapes that exist outside of time,” explained Perry. “The paintings are populated with images from my past. Adjusting color and value, and specifying forms through reference, develop my vision of a faraway planet.”
Perry teaches drawing at Western Carolina University. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting from Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts, and a Master of Fine Arts in painting from Indiana University-Bloomington.
