University of Mobile Joins International Association of Baptist Colleges and Universities

MOBILE, Ala. – University of Mobile has been accepted as a member of the International Association of Baptist Colleges and Universities.

University of Mobile President Timothy L. Smith said IABCU membership will enhance the Baptist university’s Great Commission focus by strengthening the university’s partnership with sister institutions and providing increased opportunities to collaborate.

“We look forward to partnering with the other Baptist higher educational institutions in preparing students through a Christian worldview to fulfill their Great Commission calling,” Smith said.

The IABCU is an organization of 41 colleges, universities and schools that lay claim to their Baptist history, heritage and relationships. The association fosters intentional Christian education, while cooperating in the mutual well-being of each member.

University of Mobile was founded in 1961 by Alabama Baptists and is affiliated with the Alabama Baptist State Convention.

Kathy is an award-winning public relations professional and former journalist with a strong background in strategic communications, feature writing/story-telling, copywriting and editing. Kathy joined the University of Mobile marketing/public relations staff in 1993 and has earned awards for writing, public relations and advertising, including twice receiving the grand prize for feature writing from the Baptist Communicators Association. She serves on the board of the John M. Will Scholarship Foundation, awarding scholarships to promising student journalists; and is a member of the Public Relations Council of Alabama, Baptist Communicators Association and Society of Professional Journalists. Kathy lives in Daphne with her husband, Chuck, who earned his M.B.A. from University of Mobile. They have two children and two grandchildren.
