MOBILE, Ala. – University of Mobile Project Give, a 36-hour day of giving, kicks off April 2 at 8 a.m. to raise support for the university’s students and programs.

“This will be a fun and exciting way for the entire UM family – alumni and friends of the university, faculty and staff, students and parents – to show their pride and support ‘Higher Education for a Higher Purpose,’” said Kim Garrett, director of annual giving.

It’s the first giving day for University of Mobile, and every gift matters, Garrett said. So does every story that supporters share on their own social media about how the Christ-centered university has empowered them to pursue their professional calling or fulfill their life’s purpose.

“We’re using the hashtag #GiveGreatUM to share stories and show the impact University of Mobile has in our community and our world,” Garrett said.

One of those many stories comes from Esther Hunker, a senior majoring in biology.

“I will be graduating this May, then in July heading off to Australia and Papua, New Guinea for a year-long medical missions program with a mission organization,” said Hunker, who then plans to attend medical school.

“University of Mobile has molded me in a way I could have never predicted. As a pre-med biology major with minors in chemistry and intercultural studies, this university was so unique in preparing me for medical mission work, global health, and showing me how the Great Commission can be applied, even in medicine,” Hunker said.

Garrett said the impact of each gift can stretch even further through the generosity of match support from Springhill Toyota/LEXUS of Mobile.
