MOBILE, Ala. – Two University of Mobile professors received an award for leadership and contribution to a team focused on the preparation of early educators in the state of Alabama.

UM School of Education Dean Dr. Carolyn Corliss and Assistant Professor of Education Dr. Ashley Milner received the Childhood Education Innovative Program Award June 6.

Ashley Milner

Corliss and Milner were recognized for their leadership in the network and exemplary development of their department’s early education focus. The network’s leadership consists of forward-thinking and proven early educator preparation professionals from four Alabama universities.

Among their notable contributions to the network was the reinstatement of University of Mobile’s dual elementary/early childhood undergraduate degree program and the addition of an undergraduate non-certification degree program in child and social development. They also collaborated with Mobile and Baldwin Counties’ public school systems to offer degrees and programs for students who are taking Child Development Associate (CDA) classes at high schools and community colleges.

Alabama’s Early Educator Innovative Program Network is sponsored by the Alabama Department of Early Childhood Education and Alabama School Readiness Alliance, a nonprofit pre-k advocacy coalition, and is supported by the Alabama State Department of Education.
