Psychology

A degree in Psychology at the University of Mobile gives you a basic understanding of the principles of behavior and information processing within a Christian context. You’ll study topics such as learning, cognition, perceptual processes, growth and development, personality, and both normal and abnormal behavior. Choose from a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree, as well as a minor in Psychology.

Online classes are offered in convenient 8-week sessions designed specifically for working adults. This class structure allows you to continue with your family and work schedule while advancing your career.

Admissions Requirements

Specific admission requirements for the Psychology program include the following:

 

1. Meet or exceed all University of Mobile admission requirements.

2. Complete an application for the Psychology program. Click here for the online program application.

3. Have completed 60 semester hours of coursework with an overall GPA of 2.50 or better or have fulfilled the university’s Basic Course (General Education) curriculum requirements with a University of Mobile GPA of 2.50 or better. If you have not completed the General Education requirements, the University of Mobile offers these classes on campus or online as well.

4. Have completed a minimum of two years of full-time relevant work experience.

5. Have attained the age of 23 or older, or have accepted adult responsibilities.

6. Have access to a computer and Internet.

7. Have a valid e-mail account. Students are required to use the University assigned email account for validation of student identity.

8. Commitment to class attendance and ability to devote a minimum of twelve to fifteen hours per week to coursework preparation.

Basic Courses

Students seeking a Psychology degree must complete the Basic Course (General Education) requirements of the University of Mobile (or have a “C” or better in transfer credits satisfying this set of core courses) as follows:

  • EN 101, 102 Effective English
  • History, 3 hrs.
  • Laboratory Science, 4 hrs.
  • Literature, 3 hrs.
  • CMS 310 Christian Worldview
  • CMS 321 Mission and Message of Jesus OR CMS 331 Christian Theology
  • MA 110 – Intermediate College Algebra
  • MA 211 – Elementary Statistics
  • COM 101 – Basic Public Speaking
  • CIS 101 – Microcomputer Applications
  • EC 201 – Principles of Macroeconomics
  • General Education Electives, 18 hrs.
  • Elective Courses, 20 hrs.

Note: CIS 101, COM 101, EC 201, MA 110, MA 211 are required for all Psychology majors and must be completed with a grade of “C” or above.
