University of Mobile’s Center for Excellence in Healthcare Practice (CEHP) provides hands-on clinical and lab experience for students in the College of Health Professions, including the School of Nursing, School of Health and Sports Science and School of Nurse Anesthesia. Utilizing cutting-edge simulators and augmented reality in the classroom, students receive a comprehensive learning experience that mirrors real-life scenarios.
Designed to support hands-on education, our nursing skills lab features low-fidelity mannequins that help students safely learn and practice clinical skills in a realistic and low-pressure environment. From inserting catheters to administering injections and performing basic assessments, students master the basic competencies required to perform safe, effective patient care before ever entering a hospital setting. Our faculty-led sessions and guided practice opportunities ensure that every student gains the confidence and competence needed to succeed in clinicals and beyond.
UM’s School of Health and Sports Science’s mission is to develop and prepare individuals to be future leaders in a variety of health and sport science professions.
The DNAP Skills Lab at the University of Mobile provides nurse anesthesia students with a high-fidelity, hands-on learning environment that bridges didactic knowledge with clinical practice. Equipped with advanced anesthesia workstations, airway management tools, ultrasound technology, and simulation task trainers, the lab supports the development of critical skills in a controlled and supportive setting. Students refine procedural techniques, crisis resource management, and patient safety practices in preparation for real-world anesthesia care. The DNAP Skills Lab reinforces the program’s commitment to excellence, competence, and confidence in clinical readiness.
Our Nurse Practitioner students don’t just learn — they do. Throughout the program, they return to campus for immersive skills training in advanced procedures like suturing, Pap smears, and full physical assessments. These high-impact sessions boost confidence, sharpen clinical judgment, and prepare students to lead with excellence in real-world healthcare settings.
Our Simulation Program brings learning to life with seven high-fidelity simulators designed to provide students with healthcare training in a safe learning environment. Students engage with:
• Pediatric Hal: simulating complex pediatric conditions
• Two Athenas: responsive adult female simulators for diverse medical-surgical scenarios
• Two Lucinas: advanced birthing simulators for labor, delivery, and postpartum care
• I-Stan: a versatile adult male simulator for athletic training scenarios
• Apollo: interactive male simulator for high-acuity adult health scenarios
These advanced patient simulators provide immersive learning opportunities that strengthen clinical judgment, teamwork, and interprofessional collaboration. Our simulation-based learning opportunities prepare students to deliver safe, compassionate care with confidence.
A debriefing room is designated for students and faculty to review simulation experiences and discuss challenges and strengths. High definition video is captured throughout the simulation and is played back for student review during the debriefing session.
The mission of the University of Mobile Celia Wallace College of Health Professions Simulation Program is to provide quality healthcare education in a Christian environment using high-fidelity simulation learning experiences to best prepare future healthcare professionals to make safe decisions using sound clinical judgment.
