HISTORY
Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science in History
History is as much something you do as something you learn. In the classroom as well as the field, you will collect and analyze historical data, develop a historical perspective for current events, and demonstrate an ability to communicate both orally and in writing. A degree in History prepares students for a successful career in education, public service , preservation, and many other fields.
- completion of 60 semester hours;
- a minimum 2.75 GPA in professional studies courses, a minimum 2.75 GPA in teaching field courses, and a minimum 2.75 GPA in all college courses;
- a current photograph;
- a successfully completed interview;
- a successfully completed essay prior to the interview;
- completion of a teacher education application form (found in the Undergraduate Teacher Education Handbook purchased at the UM bookstore);
- passing results for the Alabama Educator Certification Assessment Program (AECAP);
- passing results for the appropriate Praxis II content knowledge exam (applies to elementary and early childhood education majors only);
- ABI and FBI fingerprint clearance from the Alabama State Department of Education; and
- experience in schools
