Nursing education assists the student in acquiring the knowledge, which is essential to the profession.  This includes, but is not limited to, developing a knowledge base for nursing, developing proficiency in selected psychomotor skills, and a model for nursing practice.  Based upon this, qualified nursing faculty members recognize the uniqueness of the individual learner and seek to guide each student in learning experiences.  Nursing education is more thorough and perception is broadened when students are assisted in maintaining high input into their own learning and are guided by measurable goals and objectives.

The graduate of an A.D.N. program is a candidate for registered nurse licensure and functions as a contributing member of the health-care team.  The graduate is prepared to function as a beginning practitioner of nursing in caring for people of all ages with evident, common, recurring health problems in secondary health-care settings.  The A.D.N. graduate utilizes decision-making skills in a situation in which the totality of care is directed by a professional nurse.  The graduate should view nursing education as a beginning, on-going process and a basis for further study through participation in continuing education programs of formalized higher education.

Students entering the University of Mobile to attain the Associate Degree in Nursing must complete ALL admission requirements of the University.  Admission to nursing is competitive; therefore, it is important to complete ALL admission requirements for the University and the School of Nursing at the earliest possible date.

1. Submit an application to the University of Mobile for general admission to the University. After the ADN program has received accreditation approval, you will be directed to submit an application for admission to ADN Clinical Nursing.
2. Have a minimum ACT score of 19 or higher.
3. Have a minimum GPA of 2.5 on all prior college work.  If no previous college credit, the high school GPA must be a minimum of 2.5 (or GED score of 50 or higher.)
4. Submit final transcripts from any college previously attended, OR submit final high school transcripts (or GED) to Enrollment Services if no prior college.
5. Have required current immunizations as specified by the School of Nursing.
6. Have a Medical History form and be free of inhibiting physical or emotional disabilities, including the ability to perform necessary psychomotor skills normally associated with bedside nursing without assistance.
7. Submit to background checks and drug screenings.
8. Have absence of criminal conviction.
9. Have American Heart Association CPR certification (Infant, child, and adult).
10. Have current, personal health insurance coverage.
11. Have satisfactory performance on a written and spoken English competency examination or its equivalency upon request.
12. Have repeated each science course no more than once.

* Meeting the criteria for admission into the ADN Program does not guarantee acceptance into the program. Specific selection criteria will be used to complete this process.
