Thanks UM – Mikayla Persons

The University of Mobile has surrounded me with friends, faculty and staff, and a community that push me to excel in my academics, as well as my spiritual walk with God. Going to chapel with other students and having conversation with friends is a true encouragement to my faith. Being at a Christian university, I’ve been able to grow with other believers and make my faith my own.

Growing up in Mobile, I’m thankful to be close to home. I love getting to see my nieces and nephews grow up, while still getting a quality education. I have multiple family members who graduated from UM, and knowing their past experiences helped me make my college choice.

I’m thankful for UM’s faculty and staff. With the small class sizes, they are always there to discuss any questions I may have, and they teach in ways that make me a better student. They truly care about my well-being inside and outside of the classroom.

I was first drawn to the University of Mobile because of how beautiful the campus was. My family and I loved the trees that line the entryway, and we all felt so safe. Everything just felt right.

I’m so thankful for everything UM has done for me so far. I’ve had so many opportunities opened up for me, and it has really given me a place to call home and further my education. As a nursing major, the facilities that UM offers have really given me the opportunity to be prepared for my future career.

UM has also helped me get out of my shell and express myself. The faculty and staff are so welcoming and have made me feel so comfortable. Running track and field has also helped me get to know other students and build friends.

Everyone on campus is so positive, which is so refreshing. The outside world can be stressful, but the University of Mobile provides me with a place to get away and focus on school. It’s provided me with a spiritual cleansing that I never knew I needed until now, and I’m so thankful for that.

Growing up in church, it was very important for me to find a Christian university to attend. UM has provided such a culture that I feel like I can talk to anyone about my faith. I’ve also been able to have so many opportunities to grow and share my faith. You are mentored here, and you’re encouraged to mentor others.

Playing volleyball has been amazing. The girls on the team are fantastic, and our coaches really care about us as people. Coach Jon and Amber started a devotional with the volleyball team, and I can’t be more thankful for who they’ve been as mentors and coaches.

As a transfer student, UM provided me with so many opportunities to build relationships with other students. Ram Rush was so much fun and helped me get to know everyone. Student Life has also been so amazing. They do so much to get students involved on campus and encourage them.  They also do so many things for us as student athletes such as provide breakfast on a game day or hand out chicken biscuits with encouraging bible verses on them.

I’m so thankful for the opportunities that UM has provided me to play volleyball, study nursing, make friends, and grow in my faith.

I am thankful for UM and the people here, because they have provided me with the opportunity to have a purposeful life and succeed. I’ve been able to connect with people from different backgrounds and walks of life, and the faculty and staff have my best interest in mind and push students to do great things.

UM has also allowed me to grow closer to God. The Christian values that surround me on campus inspire me to be better for others and live a more Christ-like life.

UM has provided me with professional opportunities that other colleges didn’t offer. This was one of the few ABSN (Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing) programs that offered a more community-based education in which everyone felt like family.

I’ll always remember UM when I graduate, and I know that I have made relationships with friends and connections with professionals that will last a lifetime.

UM has played a major role in who I am today. As an international student, I have been given many opportunities to grow in my skills, abilities, and myself. Coming from a French household, I wasn’t comfortable expressing myself in English, but my time here has helped me further my English and become more fluent.

I initially came to UM because of the women’s soccer program. Playing soccer at UM has allowed me to travel and meet people from all across the world. I am so thankful that this school has given me the chance to play the sport I love.

UM has also helped me grow new relationships. I have new friends from different countries that I am grateful for. My soccer coaches and other players have become like a family to me, and my professors really care about who I am and are willing to help in any way they can.

Most importantly, UM has helped me grow my relationship with God. Before moving here, I didn’t know very much, but this has been the perfect environment to learn about God and His unconditional love. I’m so thankful for everything that UM has done for me, and it has shaped me into a better version of myself ready to take on the world.

I am so thankful for what UM has done for me over these last four years. I have been blessed by my peers and professors who have been willing to pour into my life and want to see me succeed. I really can’t thank them enough.

UM is great at facilitating relationships between students and with faculty and staff. I have built friendships and relationships that I know will continue to have an impact past my four years here. Students have connected me to professors and administrators who have introduced me to employers and helped me find internship opportunities.

Another thing I’m so grateful for is the small class sizes that let me have one-on-one time with professors. The professors here are willing to take time and help me plan for the future, and they are genuinely interested in my goals and try to help me achieve them in any way that I can.

After I graduate, a lot of things about UM will stick with me. More than anything, I will remember how much the support of my professors and administrators has meant to me. Knowing that they believe in me encourages me to stay motivated and work to accomplish my professional goals.
