The mission of the University of Mobile Student Success Center (SSC) is to guide students from start to finish in the areas of new student orientation, academic and interpersonal skill-building, individual counseling, and career exploration and development. The goal of the SSC staff is to provide services that allow students to grow academically, personally, spiritually, and professionally on the journey toward success.

About Brenda

Brenda Davis received her B.S. degree in Speech and English Education from the University of Southern Mississippi. She received her M.A. degree in Marriage and Family Counseling from the University of Mobile.


She has further graduate work in Communication. As Coordinator of Career Development, Brenda meets with students and directs and leads on-campus career events and workshops.

About Julia

A native of Mobile, Julia has served at the University of Mobile since November 2013 . She received her B.S. degree in Leadership and Cultural Studies and her M.A. degree in Marriage and Family Counseling, both from the University of Mobile. As Student Support Services Coordinator, Julia meets with students and their families to arm them with valuable resources to enhance their educational experience. She informs students and their parents of the process involved in enrolling with student support services. She serves as a catalyst for bringing campus and community resources together that strengthens students by implementing a system that addresses barriers to learning so all students have equal access to achieve at the University of Mobile. Julia serves as an academic success counselor, assisting students with implementing strategies to increase opportunities for success. Julia also assists our veteran students with the highest level of support and dedication in order to enhance the successful transition from military life into a chosen field or career through education.

Lawrencine Mason

About Lawrencine

Lawrencine received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biblical Studies and a Master of Arts Degree in Marriage and Family Counseling, both from the University of Mobile.


She has served as a Career Counselor with the University of Mobile since 2014. Her duties include assisting studies with career preparation by helping them write cover letters, resumes, reference pages, and personal statements for graduate school. In addition, she advises students on improving their interviewing and networking skills.


Lawrencine also posts jobs, internships, and volunteer opportunities for our students on our physical job board in Weaver Hall and on MyUM.

About Mary-Claire

Mary-Claire received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, Bachelor of Arts in English, and Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Counseling from the University of Mobile. She is also a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Alabama.


As the University Counselor Mary-Claire assists currently enrolled students in obtaining counseling appropriate to their needs, provides consultation and crisis intervention services to students and others concerned with students’ emotional well-being, and teaches healthy coping skills to students through outreach efforts.

About Dakota

Dakota Cantrell received her B.S. degree in Psychology from the University of Mobile and has served at the University of Mobile since 2014.


As Coordinator of First and Second Year Experience, Dakota meets with freshmen and sophomore students about their academics and personal growth. She plans events for these students as well as Freshman Seminar, an orientation class for freshmen where they learn how to be successful at UM.


Dakota’s top 5 strengths are Includer-Empathy-Individualization-Communication-Developer.

The Learning Connection

Freshman Seminar is a program offered for first-time freshmen here at UMobile. As a freshman, you will have the opportunity to attend seminars designed to connect you with valuable information and resources necessary for beginning a successful college career. You and your RAM FAM members will journey through this seminar together with your faculty mentor and peer leader who will help guide you through your first semester as a UMobile student.
