Students must be accepted to University of Mobile before aid eligibility can be determined.
Create a Federal Student Aid ID (FSA ID) username and password at https://studentaid.gov/fsa-id/create-account. FSA ID’s are used for electronic signatures. Parents of dependent students must also create a FSA ID.
Avoid common errors by verifying personal information is entered correctly (name, date of birth, and social security number).
List University of Mobile as the school you would like to receive your FAFSA. UM’s school code is 001029.
Both the student and parent must sign the FAFSA using their each unique FSA ID’s if the student is dependent.
Ensure you have received an email from the Department of Education stating “Congratulations!” This email should include your Date Release Number, Estimated SAI, Transaction Number, and Date Processed. This ensures you have completed the FAFSA correctly.
Once the FAFSA has been received by UM, students will be notified through their UM student email account (if accepted for admission).
Students should continue to check for emails and their UM Self Service portal account on a regular basis for any additional requests for documents.
Aid Offer notifications will be sent to the student’s UM student email account. Students can also check the status of their aid offers at any time in their UM Self Service tab under “Financial Aid.”
Accept/decline any aid offers.
If a student accepts Federal Direct Student Loans, they must complete loan requirements such as a Master Promissory Note (MPN) and Loan Entrance Counseling at https://studentaid.gov using their FSA ID.
FEDERAL FINANCIAL AID TIPS
We recommend that you complete your FAFSA on a desktop and laptop since smaller devices can obscure formatting and cause miss steps in completing the FAFSA.
If you need additional aid, there are additional options such as Federal Plus Loans or Private Student loans.
