Position Summary:
The University of Mobile is seeking a skilled HVAC Technician & Maintenance Worker to perform routine HVAC maintenance, repairs, and general upkeep of campus buildings, facilities, and equipment. This position ensures that all systems and infrastructure are functioning properly, contributing to a safe and efficient environment for staff and students.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform routine maintenance on HVAC systems, troubleshoot issues, and repair or replace components as needed.
- Carry out general maintenance and repairs on building structures, including floors, showers, sinks, walls, roofs, and carpets.
- Troubleshoot, adjust, and repair locks, door hinges, and key slots on doors, cabinets, desks, and closets.
- Replace filters on HVAC units regularly.
- Service and install appliances, kitchen equipment, and emergency systems; identify and report mechanical issues, recommending corrective action.
- Move and arrange furniture, including installing cubicle partitions.
- Respond to emergency alarm calls both during and after regular working hours.
- Maintain a safe and functional campus environment by ensuring all systems and equipment are operational.
- Perform basic carpentry, such as constructing and repairing partitions, doors, window frames, office furniture, and shelves.
- Replace broken glass and window hardware, and arrange for the replacement of windows and light fixture glass as necessary.
- Perform basic electrical work, including the installation and repair of switches, outlets, cables, circuits, and lighting systems.
- Conduct basic plumbing repairs, including fixing leaks, clearing clogs, and replacing washers or other minor components. Maintain and monitor the septic system, and perform painting and wall repairs.
- Conduct regular HVAC system inspections to ensure proper operation, including on weekends as necessary.
- Participate in on-call duties as scheduled.
- Assist other departments such as Grounds and Housekeeping as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficiency in general maintenance tasks, with knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, glass replacement, painting, masonry, appliance repair, and electrical wiring.
- Ability to operate and maintain tools used in facility maintenance and repair.
- Strong organizational skills for maintaining maintenance logs and records.
- Ability to troubleshoot and address mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC issues promptly and efficiently.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and scaffolds.
- Ability to stand or walk for extended periods.
- Ability to bend, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl to perform maintenance tasks.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and temperatures.
Minimum Qualifications:
- HVAC/R Certification
- At least three years of general maintenance experience.
- At least three years of experience in one or more building trades (carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, etc.).
Education:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
Required Licenses:
- Valid Refrigerant License
- Valid State Driver's License
