Position Summary:
The University of Mobile is seeking a Housekeeping Supervisor to oversee daily housekeeping operations across campus. This position involves managing the housekeeping team, scheduling cleaning services, and ensuring that all facilities meet high standards of cleanliness and safety. The Housekeeping Supervisor is responsible for maintaining an aesthetically pleasing and functional indoor environment for students, staff, and visitors.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise and evaluate housekeeping staff to ensure high-quality cleaning services and the proper use of materials and equipment through regular inspections and daily supervision.
- Hire, supervise, train, and conduct performance reviews for housekeeping employees; lead staff meetings to communicate department goals, strategies, and updates; provide training on equipment usage, cleaning methods, and safety practices.
- Manage the housekeeping department budget, including the procurement of necessary supplies and equipment with approval from the Director.
- Oversee daily housekeeping operations, cyclical cleaning projects, preventive maintenance tasks, and special projects; assist staff with training and specific tasks, such as floor work, moves, and event setups.
- Review work orders to ensure tasks are completed on time and to satisfaction.
- Assist with planning and coordinating housekeeping services for special university events, such as commencement.
- Ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations and best practices in housekeeping.
- Maintain detailed records of work completed, materials used, and labor hours for accountability and reporting.
- Perform housekeeping tasks to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming campus environment.
- Sweep, mop, and wash floors; periodically use buffing machines for floor care and polishing.
- Strip, scrub, and refinish floors when required.
- Vacuum, spot clean, and shampoo carpets.
- Polish metal surfaces and clean glass and enamel fixtures.
- Dust and clean vertical and horizontal surfaces throughout campus buildings.
- Collect and transport refuse, ensuring containers are cleaned and relined with plastic bags.
- Clean high surfaces, such as windows and door frames.
- Wash sinks and plumbing fixtures and replenish supplies like paper towels, soap, sanitizer, and toilet paper.
- Dust, clean, and polish furniture in campus facilities.
- Oversee the cleaning and preparation of student rooms during summer turnover.
- Use appropriate cleaning products such as detergents, disinfectants, and finishes.
- Operate cleaning equipment including floor machines, automatic scrubbers, and waste collection tools.
- Wash walls and ceilings using specialized cleaning equipment.
- Move furniture and equipment for special events, office changes, and other requests.
- Remove snow and ice from building entrances as needed.
- Assist the Maintenance and Grounds departments as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of housekeeping methods, materials, tools, and equipment.
- Strong understanding of leadership and supervisory principles.
- Familiarity with safety regulations in housekeeping.
- Strong organizational skills for scheduling and managing housekeeping tasks.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding work-related information.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and campus community members.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and scaffolds.
- Ability to stand, walk, and move for long periods of time.
- Ability to bend, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl as required for cleaning tasks.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions and temperatures when needed for outdoor tasks.
Experience:
- At least two years of experience in commercial housekeeping or cleaning services.
- At least one year of supervisory experience.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Licenses/Certifications:
- Valid driver’s license.
