The Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) program at the University of Mobile is a five-semester program that prepares you to enter the workforce quickly. It can be a first step for students who want to begin their career in health care, then continue their education toward a bachelor’s or master’s degree while working in the field.

Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

The Associate Degree Nursing Program offers students the ability to start a rewarding career as a Registered Nurse through a comprehensive, two-year educational pathway. The associate degree nursing program prepares students to enter the workforce as competent, direct caregivers in a variety of healthcare settings which include diverse patient populations. Students are admitted to the program annually, starting in the Fall semester. Students considered for admission include those entering college directly out of high school as well as those who have previous college experience. Courses are delivered primarily in person at the beautiful University of Mobile campus and in the various healthcare settings in the greater Mobile area. The curriculum is delivered by experienced full time and adjunct faculty members who are passionate about providing students with a positive yet challenging learning environment.

In addition to clinical experiences in multiple healthcare settings, students gain hands-on experience in our state-of -the-art Center for Excellence in Healthcare Practice. The Center features skills labs with high fidelity patient simulators. Students participate in multiple learning experiences in the Center which mirror scenarios experienced in the clinical setting.

ADDITIONAL PROGRAM INFORMATION

Students entering the University of Mobile to attain the Associate Degree in Nursing must complete ALL admission requirements of the University. Admission to nursing is competitive; therefore, it is important to complete ALL admission requirements for the University and the School of Nursing at the earliest possible date.

Submit an application to the University of Mobile for general admission to the University. After the ADN program has received accreditation approval, you will be directed to submit an application for admission to ADN Clinical Nursing.
Have a minimum ACT score of 19 or higher.
Have a minimum GPA of 2.5 on all prior college work. If no previous college credit, the high school GPA must be a minimum of 2.5 (or GED score of 50 or higher.)
Submit final transcripts from any college previously attended, OR submit final high school transcripts (or GED) to Enrollment Services if no prior college.
Submission of a clear background check and absence of criminal conviction.
Submission of a clear drug screen when requested.
Submission of health history and record of required current immunizations as specified by the School of Nursing.
Have CPR certification.
Have current, personal health insurance coverage.
Have satisfactory performance on a written and spoken English competency examination or its equivalency upon request.
Have repeated each science course no more than once.

The National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) is the licensing examination for all ADN and BSN graduates. Prior to graduation, all students planning to take the registered nurse (RN) licensing examination should review the information that is located on the University of Mobile website (umobile.edu - academics - schools/colleges - college of health professions - school of nursing - Nursing RN NCLEX information). The steps for testing and licensure must be completed by each student, accompanied by payment of the required fee(s). Students planning to take the licensing examination outside of Alabama are responsible for contacting the State Board of Nursing in the state in which they plan to become licensed for any additional application information.

Students should be aware that successful completion of the nursing program in no way guarantees successful passage of the licensing examination (NCLEX-RN). In addition, the Board of Nursing has the right to refuse an applicant permission to take the exam for any reason they deem is appropriate to do so.
