The University of Mobile College of Arts and Sciences and Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences invites applications for a full-time/tenure-track Assistant Professor of Politics and Law and Criminology position to begin Spring 2024.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate courses in Politics and Law (political science) and in Criminology, based on the needs of the college and department. Other tasks include preparation of course materials and assignments, serving as academic advisor to students as assigned, engaging in curriculum review and development, and coordinating internships for students. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication and presentation skills are required; the ability to establish a rapport with students and maintain an environment that supports learning and promotes student retention and experience using a Learning Management System (LMS) are also required.
This position will be a full-time, 9-month appointment. The university academic curriculum is based on a four-day week. Some programmatic activities require some evenings and Friday coverage.
Qualifications:
- Preferred: Earned Doctorate (Ph.D.) in political science, criminology, criminal justice, or a related field*
- Required: Master’s degree in political science, criminology, criminal justice, or a related field*
- Rank and salary are commensurate with education and experience
Note: UM recognizes Criminology as an emerging discipline that draws from such diverse fields as criminal justice, government/political science, sociology, psychology, cultural studies, demography, communication, anthropology, economics, law and public policy, and various natural sciences, and will consider the contributory value of these in hiring decisions.
