Assistant Professor of Sociology

The University of Mobile College of Arts and Sciences and Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences invites applications for a full-time/tenure-track Assistant Professor of Sociology position to begin August 2024.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate courses in Sociology based on the needs of the department and will contribute to the ongoing success of UM’s Integrated 5-Year Master of Science in Social Work (a partnership with Samford University).

Responsibilities aside from teaching include academic advising, program coordination, curriculum assessment and review, oversight of experiential student learning opportunities, and participation in recruiting events. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills are required as is experience using a learning management system. A successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to establish a positive rapport with students and to maintain an environment that supports learning and promotes student retention.

This position will be a full-time, 9-month appointment. The university academic curriculum is based on a four-day week. Some programmatic activities require evenings and Friday coverage.

Qualifications:

  • Preferred: Earned Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Sociology
  • Required: Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate credit hours in Sociology or Social Work
  • Rank and salary are commensurate with education and experience
